A couple of years ago two new furnace types were added to Minecraft, of these two new blocks we will be looking at the blast furnace. In contrast to the basic oven, which consists of eight paving stones, this oven has a special functionality to make it a little more unique. This particular functionality is that it smelts ores much faster than normal furnaces.
How to make and use a blast furnace
We’ll start with the making recipe because it’s nice and easy, and also because owning the block is a great starting point to use. First you will need three blocks of smooth stone, which you can get by melting cobblestone into stone and then melting the resulting stone again to make a smooth stone. Then you need to open a crafting table and put the three smooth stone blocks in the bottom row, put a normal oven in the middle, and then fill the rest with iron ingots. A blast furnace is now available to you.
To use the blast furnace, all you have to do is turn it off and take some coal, as it works remarkably similar to a normal furnace. You take your coal and some ore and put them in like a normal one and the result is your ore will melt twice as fast. It should be noted, however, that this furnace only works when smelting ores. You can’t use it to melt food or things like glass. Coal is also used double the amount to make up for twice the speed so you need the same amount of coal that you always need. It also has added functionality as a villager can use an erected blast furnace to become an armourer.
Minecraft is now available for PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices.
