Which difficulty should you choose?

3 Min Read

Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is finally here, and the game offers different levels of difficulty, ranging from very easy to criminally difficult. The difficulty selection affects not only how much health the enemies inflict, but also how much damage they do to you and how aggressive they are in combat. Enemies on lower difficulty will remain stationary and allow you to take cover, while enemies on the highest difficulty will relentlessly chase you down during firefights. Here are all the difficulty levels in Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart.

What difficulty should you choose in Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart?

There are five difficulty levels in Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart, and each of them is listed below.

  • Beginner Researcher
  • Rookie recruiters
  • Rebel agent
  • Resistance leader
  • Apostate legend

Rebel agent corresponds to normal difficulty and offers standard enemy aggressiveness, damage and health. This is the recommended choice for most gamers. However, if you want an extra challenge, then this is it Resistance leader makes the fight much more exciting by increasing the level of difficulty a little. The enemies only have slightly more health and damage than on normal difficulty, but are much more aggressive. This is basically a normal mode, but with smarter enemies, which makes the game a lot more fun. If you’ve played ratchet and clank games before and are looking for the ultimate challenge, then choose Apostate legend. This is the hardest difficulty in Rift Apart, and some sections of the game can get quite frustrating in this mode.

At the other end of the spectrum are the two simple modes: Rookie recruit and Beginner Researcher. Rookie Recruit is the easy mode equivalent that makes enemies really weak so you can focus on the story. Rookie Explorer is identical to Rookie Recruit, only Rookie Explorer prevents you from dying in the first place. Rookie Explorer is really there for accessibility and casual gamers, but there’s no shame in choosing it if all you want to do is experience the story.

Does the difficulty affect the trophies?

The difficulty level does not affect trophies in Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart. You can play in any mode and still earn the platinum trophy. You can also change the difficulty level at any time without penalty. If you are having difficulty defeating a boss or completing a Battleplex Arena challenge, you can simply drop the difficulty for a moment to overcome this section and move on with the game.
