The Sims 4 has released several DLCs to expand the game since its launch. Some of the DLCs are content-intensive Expansion packages, while others are collections of cosmetics and furniture. From April 2021 there will be 40 paid DLC packs consisting of 10 expansion packs, 9 game packs, 18 stuff packs and 3 kits. EA also offered a free vacation-themed package that all players should pick up to add a little vacation fun to their game.
EA and Maxis continue to release major new content packs a few times each year. But for beginners looking to expand beyond the base game, knowing which DLC to buy can be intimidating. The next time DLC goes on sale, ten DLC players should be added to their collection.
These are the top 10 expansion and DLC packs for The Sims 4.
The Sims 4: Laundry Day Stuff
Nothing beats a fresh load of laundry, and now Sims can experience it on laundry day too. This was the first community-voted package that players have worked on with developers for several months, with players voting for their favorite features and items. The Stuff Pack adds realism to the game and has a littering feature where Sims change their clothes on a daily basis and then wash them in a traditional washer / dryer combo, washtub, or row outdoors. The pack also contained some country-inspired decorative elements.
The Sims 4: Dine Out
In addition to introducing dining in restaurants, the Dine Out Game Pack allows Sims to own and manage multiple restaurants. Players can visit a restaurant, order a three-course meal, and strengthen their relationship with friends or potential romantic interests. When players become more interested in making money, they can go through the hiring process, create a unique dining experience, and much more. More than 100 items have been added to the pack, along with several prepackaged restaurants for Sims to enjoy.
The Sims 4: Parenthood
There is still more to be done The Sims 4 for adults than for children and seniors. With the Parenthood Game Pack, Sims can develop their parenting skills, teach values about life and shape children into successful adults. Younger Sims can also go through “phases” in which they pretend to be a bear one day and decline their favorite food the next. The package also improves the school experience. Families can work together on school projects or volunteer to improve social statistics.
The Sims 4: Get to Work
While “Get to Work” may not sound appealing, the expansion pack adds several new pieces of content to keep players busy. The main feature of the package are three new jobs: doctor, detective and scientist. Players can follow their Sim to work and complete a full day of work. This can include diagnosing patience or finding out who committed a crime. Get to Work is also introducing a new business district, Magnolia Promenade, which includes four lots with three pre-built shops and a secret “Sixam” bonus ticket for scientists to discover. If any of the three new jobs aren’t attractive, Sims can instead start their own business or have fun with the new Alien Sim type.
The Sims 4 Tiny Living Stuff
The Tiny Living Stuff Pack is perfect for players who don’t want to create huge mansions for their Sims. The purpose of the package is to keep it cozy with Murphy beds, all-in-one stereos, and bookcase combinations. A new type of residential lot called “Tiny Home” has also been added. Players have a limit of 100 tiles to build their houses, but the smaller the house, the more benefits Sims have, such as smaller bills and a boost in mood. Tiny Living proves that Sims can do more with less.
The Sims 4: Cats & Dogs
A Sim’s life can change forever by adding a cat or dog to their family. The Cats & Dogs Expansion Pack adds a pet creation tool to the CAS screen to personalize the animals’ looks and personalities. Unlike previous games, pets can’t be controlled, but Sims can still have a lot of fun. A new neighborhood, Brindleton Bay, has a variety of parks and residential areas for Sims to make new friends. The EP also adds a new career path, Veterinarian, so that players can own a clinic and help sick pets. The pack is ideal for any Sim in need of a furry friend.
The Sims 4: Realm of Magic
The Realm of Magic Game Pack introduces magic to the world of The Sims. A new neighborhood called Glimmerbrook has been introduced that is filled with new friends. Sims can also transform into spellcasters who can learn how to brew potions and cast spells. When a caster needs help, they can create a variety of familiar, animal-like companions ranging from fairies, owls, ravens, and more. The power of spellcasters can last a lifetime if their children inherit their magical bloodline. While many play the Sims to replicate real life, Realm of Magic adds a magical twist.
The Sims 4: Snowy Escape
The tenth expansion pack, Snowy Escape, is a Japan-inspired DLC. Various outdoor activities such as mountaineering, snowboarding, skiing and tobogganing are presented. For those who have not-so-active Sims, there is a Japanese-style bathhouse that is perfect for social Sims and families. Although the new Mt. Komorebi neighborhood focuses on snow, the Seasons EP isn’t required to enjoy the colder weather. Snowy Escape was also the first EP to introduce “Lifestyles,” which gives Sims deeper personalities. Smaller details in the pack, such as taking off shoes at the entrance of a house and the ability for SIms to choose which dishes to use, give new life to the characters.
The Sims 4: Paranormal Stuff
The Paranormal Stuff Pack expands the supernatural elements in The Sims 4. When a Sim dies in the game, their ghosts often stay around. In the pack, Sims can work on their intermediate skills and become a paranormal investigator to restore order to their peaceful neighborhood. If Sims prefer a little chaos, they can check out the new residential lot called Haunted Houses. The pack also brings back Bonehilda, the friendly skeleton maid. The Paranormal Stuff Pack allows players to do more with ghosts and the afterlife within the Sims.
The Sims 4: Seasons
The Seasons Expansion Pack adds all four seasons and the weather. Year round, weather conditions are easily overlooked in the base game as every day is sunny. However, with the Seasons EP, players have access to a calendar of special holidays and can even host custom celebrations. With Seasons, Sims can now work on their gardening skills to produce flowers or self-grown vegetables, or take them to a whole new level with the “gardening” career. Seasons may seem natural to us, but they can have an impact on a Sim’s life and be great fun for players.
The Sims 4 is now available for PC, Mac, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
