Outrider: How to Change Mods

in the Outriders You can change the mods around in your gear, provided you’ve already added some to your mod library. The process of changing mods isn’t cosmic, but there are some caveats to ensure you’re always chasing the perfect drop of prey. Best of all, you can unlock the ability to swap out mods at the start of the campaign.

Change the modifications in Outriders by talking to Dr. Zahedi at camp speaking to access the crafting menu.

Shortly after you met Dr. Having rescued Zahedi and reached the third zone, Eagle Peaks, the good doctor will grant you access to the crafting menu in Outriders. This interface allows you to change the mods in your gear, although there are restrictions.

First you need to learn a mod before you can stick it into other items. To learn mods you have to disassemble the items in which you found them. I’ll go into more detailed details in our guide here, but you’ll need to break down the items to add mods to your mod library.

Once you know a mod, you can select the item you want to customize from the crafting menu and then select Mod Gear. From here go to your mod library – any unlearned mods will be blocked and the number of learned mods from each level will be listed above. Select the mod you want to equip and press the button associated with the slot you want to place it in whenever you change an epic or legendary item.

You can only change one mod slot per item, which isn’t a big deal with Rares as they only have one mod slot. However, Epics and Legendaries have two slots, so any slot you don’t select will be locked out of any future mod changes. You can change the mod slot you changed as many times as you want, but not the locked one. You can see which mod slot can be changed by looking at the tools icon next to it. Mods of the same name don’t stack up either.

There is a resource cost associated with changing mods in Outriders, but it’s not terrible. Leather is required for armor and iron for weapons. Even in the endgame, each mod swap only takes a few hundred resources, and if you disassemble armor and weapons, you get plenty of both. You can also kill monsters for leather and mine iron veins while you’re out in the world if you need more.

Outriders is now available for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X | S and Stadia available.
