Monster Hunter Rise: How to Beat Pukei-Pukei

Pukei-Pukei Easily earned the title of the strangest monster in Monster Hunter Rise. It looks like a combination of a toad, a chameleon … and lots of other poisonous creatures, I would guess. A very long tongue, poisonous tail, and huge appetite are the most distinctive features, all of which act as efficient tools in combat. If you need help with this monster, take a look below as we will all analyze its benefits.

Pukei-Pukei overview

To get started with pukei-pukei, it is highly recommended that you deal with it closely and personally. At its core, it is a ranged fighter with lots of poisonous attacks combined with quick swings of the tongue. Both his tongue and tail are very dangerous if not controlled, but they are also the weakest spots. So try to aim for them when attacking as much as you can, especially his tongue, which is extremely vulnerable to pretty much any attack.

However, try to sever the tail before focusing on the tongue. As mentioned above, his whole body behaves a little differently based on what he has previously eaten. For example, if you notice a swollen tail, it is certain that it is spreading its poisonous clouds a lot. It moves clockwise so go with the flow to avoid its sprays and keep attacking it until it is cut off. If you are successful, the toxic cloud will be less than half of its original area and radius, which will hinder it significantly.

Don’t let go of your guard, even if you end up getting rid of the tail. Pukei-Pukei can also throw ranged missiles from the mouth, also with the poison attribute. So it’s not like you stopped it in its tracks by removing the rear tail. In general, expect many antidotes to be used in a fight with this strange creature as there will be poison everywhere.

After all, it should be noted that in Monster Hunter Rise, Pukei-Pukei is very prone to many status ailments such as paralysis, sleep and explosion. If you take advantage of these advantages, you will get extremely good results. Paralysis, in particular, is very easy to inflict on the Bird Wyvern, making it the preferred choice. Any weapon can be used in this battle as long as it contains a status inducing enhancement or the Thunder element. Personally, as you can even see in the picture above, I tend to use the insect glaze on monsters who like to fight from a distance since it is so easy to get close to them with the specific weapon.

Try to avoid poisoning as much as possible, cut the tail and attack the tongue whenever possible, keep the pace of the fight in a confined space and pukei-pukei will not last long and close everything off what we had to say about Oddball.
