Minecraft: How to Breed Villagers

2 Min Read

Of all the mobs in Minecraft, the villagers are perhaps some of the most unique and useful there is, so we’ll see how to breed them. They are arguably the most complicated mob in the game to breed successfully, so this guide aims to simplify things a bit so you can be one of the successful ones. Before we begin, however, be prepared to invest many resources in this endeavor.

How to breed villagers

The first thing you need to know about raising villagers is that there is a soft limit on how many baby villagers they can make, which depends on how many beds there are in the village. To put it simply, there needs to be an open bed in the village / area where you plan to grow them. An open bed must be accessible to the villagers to be valid, this means that there must be open blocks above the bed and that they must have access to it. Filling an open room with multiple beds can meet this condition as long as it is possible to go to each of them. As soon as there are no more open beds, they are no longer ready to grow.

Once the village area is prepared with beds, you need to make sure that the villagers concerned have groceries in their inventory. You will need either 3 pieces of bread, 12 carrots, 12 potatoes, or 12 beetroot to meet this condition. Once this is done, the next step is unfortunately completely dependent on luck. Once all the conditions are met, after a while the villagers will randomly switch to mating mode and give birth to some babies. This will also use up the food they had, so they will need more if you want them to continue brooding.

Minecraft is now available for PC, PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and mobile devices.
