Final Fantasy 14 Patch 5.5 introduces the first half of the last chapter in Shadowbringer Main scenario. Death Unto Dawn acts as the prologue for the next Final Fantasy 14 expansion, Endwalker, and you should finish it before the expansion launches later this year (unless you want to catch up in hour 11).
The main scenario for patch 5.5 starts in Mor Dhona after completing the storyline 5.4 in Final Fantasy 14.
As with all previous main scenario quests, you will need to clear the previous chapter first to move on to the next. This means that you will need to complete any quests for the main scenario that you have left over from Final Fantasy 14 Patch 5.4 before taking on the new quests in Patch 5.5. If you are level 80 but have not yet completed the first Shadowbringers campaign, you must do so first and then complete all of the following quests for the main scenario.
Once you’ve completed Futures Rewritten, you can return to the Rising Stones in Mor Dhona and speak to Alisaie (X: 6.0, Y: 5.9) for the first quest in the Death Before Dawn main scenario, Until The Break receive. Patch 5.5’s main scenario has only six quests, as the narrative has been split in half (which is standard for the last major patch in an expansion). Patch 5.58 adds the final collection of quests for Death Unto Dawn. Turn off those six to start these right away on debut.
In addition, the new dungeon – Paglth’an – will be unlocked by completing quests in the main scenario of Patch 5.5. You will need to complete this dungeon to regain access to the Expert Roulette in the Duty Finder. Even if you don’t care about the story in Final Fantasy 14, to keep up with your story, be sure to wrap Death Unto Dawn in Endgame Grind.
Final Fantasy XIV: Shadowbringers is now available for PC and PlayStation 4. The official version for PlayStation 5 is currently in beta.
