A third generation monster returned Monster Hunter Rise, one of the Leviathans we barely see, the Royal Ludroth. An aggressive giant lizard that is constantly looking for ways to preserve water in its spongy mane. Can’t stand being dry, so don’t expect Royal Ludroth to be anywhere near Sandy Plains or anything like that. Let’s see how to deal with this amphibian (see below).
How to beat Royal Ludroth in Monster Hunter Rise
Royal Ludroth’s main trick is the sponge that surrounds its head and part of its core body. It needs to be hydrated at all times, which is why it is always looking for moist areas or places with water. The yellow sponge drains away all excess water and grows as the water size increases. It can be used defensively and offensively in combat, so Royal Ludroth can withstand many attacks and exploit its size for some nasty duels.

Royal Ludroth overview
The key to fighting a Royal Ludroth in Monster Hunter Rise is keeping them out of the water. It’s easier said than done, of course, but if you manage to get this out of this, this Leviathan’s attacks will be considerably weaker, making it less of a threat.
The sponge mane may seem intimidating at first, but when you actually find that it is also the most vulnerable area, it is really easy to plan your plan of action. You need to aim for it most of the time while avoiding the constant barrage of body assaults that range from belly failures to full body tackles to tail swings.
Royal Ludroth can also spit out slime with water rot attributes. If you are hit, it suffers from the specific disease and your stamina regenerates much more slowly. Try to avoid this with side evasive maneuvers as water rot is a very annoying disease that can only be cured by waiting or using a nullberry. What to stock up on if you plan to breed that particular monster for a while.
In general, fighting a Royal Ludroth can be problematic if you are not careful with its movements as it can be quite unpredictable. The monster can keep up pretty well at both short and long range. Hence, it is best to predict its movements and hit its mane until it gets tired. As mentioned earlier, try to force it to stay out of the water as well. As such, firearms work wonders with such a monster, and since the vulnerable spots are so large, almost any weapon can do equally well here. However, Dual Blades have been known to destroy this Leviathan in no time, with the right timing of your side steps in Demon Mode when it is preparing some major body attacks.
