Genshin Impact: Contending Tides Event Guide

Competing tides is the newest event in Genshin Impact Version 1.4, and you have to kick a Hilichurl butt to earn all possible rewards. The event is pretty straightforward: a new challenge unlocks roughly every day, and you need to beat it on at least normal difficulty to earn some cute, sweet Primogeme. However, there are a few things to consider when taking advantage of everything on offer.

Beat Hilichurl with your A-Team in Contending Tides for some Primogems, Hero’s Wits, Mora and more in Genshin Impact.

The Contending Tides event in Genshin Impact is a simple arena event, but there are a few folds. The basic premise is simple: beat Hilichurl in a timed fight in an arena to win. A new challenge appears every day, and you can tackle it on one of three different levels. As you overcome a higher level of difficulty, you will receive the rewards from the previous levels of difficulty if you haven’t beaten them.

The event will run from April 2, 1000 EST through April 12, 0359 EST. You must be at least Adventure Rank 20 to participate. As long as you meet this requirement, the next time you log in to Genshin Impact, you will receive a quest to contact Dr. Livingston in the Dadaupa Gorge to the southeast of Lunar City. Talk to her to unlock Contending Tides.

The location of the tide will be marked on your map and you can teleport freely to the event if you feel like bullying Hilichurl. In the middle of the arena you will see a battle token, just like you would when exploring the world. Interact with it to bring up the actual interface for Contending Tides.

You will see a couple of things here. To begin with, on the left is the full list of challenges that occur during the tides, as well as the duration until they are unlocked if they are still inaccessible. To the right are the rewards per difficulty, and above that section is the description for the challenge.

Read this description carefully as it describes the modifiers you will encounter during the challenge and how they work. In the example above – “Welcome to Easy Mode” – you will receive an attack bonus when you are in the aura within the arena. They will also set off powerful shock waves within the aura if you have some stamina. Use these buffs to complete the challenge!

If you would like to find out the more detailed details of the challenge you will be faced with, click on “Stage Details” below. This will not only show the exact details of the modifiers listed in the description, but also all of the enemies shown. Use this information to help build your party for success.

Once you’re ready to roll the dice, select “Select Difficulty” to get started. There are three levels of difficulty offered – Normal, Difficult, and Extreme – and each has three completion criteria, which are listed below. All three must be cleared to complete the challenge.

In addition, your world level decides on the levels for each level of difficulty. However, changing your world level does not change the levels associated with each difficulty level. So if you have the opportunity to raise your world level, you may hold back until the event ends.

Once you’ve taken on the Contending Tides challenge in Genshin Impact, you’ll have a set amount of time to clear out all enemies and complete the three completion criteria for the difficulty level you selected. Use the special modifiers to your advantage and send a team well equipped for a brawl. Also, don’t forget to have food on hand to heal wounded characters (especially on extreme difficulty levels where losing a single character leads to failure).

You have approximately nine days to complete seven challenges. So you should keep up with Genshin Impact next week if you want to take advantage of at least all of the Primogeme on offer. Time to kick your ass, traveler.
