Big news for all Fortnite fans and those who want to become one! As Epic Games recently announced for the well-known Battle Royale game, Fortnite should also get a version of the upcoming PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles. The release should take place together with the release date of the platforms and later even switch to the recently unveiled Unreal Engine 5.
The developers say that this is not a completely “new Fortnite,” however, explicitly. Fortnite will continue to be based on Unreal Engine 4 for the first few months on Xbox Series X and PS5 but will be optimized to take advantage of the new hardware and new features of next-gen consoles. The switch to the new engine will take place in the middle of the next year, 2021.
Crossplay and progress
Furthermore, the developers would plan to support the cross-platform progress across different console generations and platforms so that the accounts, including the development and items in your possession, can also be used there. Also, Epic explains that the goal is to ultimately support cross-platform gaming across all platforms, which includes current and next-generation consoles.
Players who do not make the switch to the new consoles for Christmas 2020 will not be left out in the rain, either. Fortnite also wants to continue to support all previous platforms.
