Evil Genius 2: Successful execution of schemes

Schemes are your main source of gold in Evil Genius 2, but it’s easy to overstretch and bankrupt your sneaky operations when you get too greedy. There are a few keys to running Schemes successfully, and they include managing both your Minions and your Heat. As long as you keep an eye on the world map, you should make big bucks with ease.

Keep your heat low and spend your minions wisely to successfully execute Schemes in Evil Genius 2.

As soon as you have unlocked access to the world map (AKA “Global Operations”), you can set up criminal networks in areas that you have explored. To set up a criminal network, you must first build a control room in your hiding place and fill it with radio repeaters. Each gives you 1 strength, and you need 1 strength to explore a new region. You will get access to better items and research that will provide more broadcast power later. For now, however, focus on setting up some Tier 1 criminal networks.

Once a criminal network is established in your global operations, you will notice two schematic symbols around: purple and yellow. You will gain access to others as you update your criminal networks. However, let’s break down these basic networks first, as understanding how these starter programs run is key to your future success.

The core concept of Schemes is simple: criminal operations will accumulate “heat” over time, causing the judiciary to investigate you and eventually suspending your criminal operation in the region for a short period of time. You want to keep the heat low, but each scheme will generate a set amount of heat over time (the better the rewards, the more heat is gained).

Yellow systems are your basic moneymakers. Some last twenty minutes and reward more than 20,000 gold, while others are much shorter for smaller rewards when more minions are needed to run. Correctly: Minions sent on Schemes do not return. Every Minion that you send to complete a schema – regardless of the type of schema – is a cost to consider when choosing which schemas to use.

So you have to worry about both heat and minions if you want to execute successful schemes in Evil Genius 2. Here are some tricks to make your life as an Evil Genius easier. First are purple schemes for how to reduce heat in a given area of ​​your global operations. This will either take some time and cost minions, or it will dissolve in seconds at the expense of gold. You need to use these when your heat is within 20% of your criminal network’s cap (50 to start with).

Of course, the gold option seems ideal – it won’t cost you minions, after all – but keep in mind that you’ll be spending gold on everything from upgrading your hideout to investing in research to recruiting minions if you have to Refill rows quickly. The gold option is ideal if you are flush with gold and not actively building. However, you should prioritize the Minion options early on.

Since you are consuming minions left and right to run your schemes, the first thing you need to focus on is increasing the cap on minions available. That means you will have to expand your barracks and build more lockers to increase your minion cap. You can also look for increases in the cap, but lockers are the quickest way to add to your ranks early. Don’t be too crazy – more minions will mean more recovery rooms in the long run – but do try to get your minion cap to 100 before running schemes across the Global Operations map.

Once you have 100 minions, start running 3 to 4 schemes at a time, prioritizing those with the best rewards available. Yes, these generate more heat, but the reason for this recommendation is simple: you can switch to a new scheme at any time. The minions will be lost, but you will lose them no matter what.

Scheme rewards act like heat – they are accumulated over the duration of the scheme. So, let your heat drop to zero, start the scheme, and then either redirect to a heat dump scheme when your heat approaches the ceiling, or immediately start a heat dump scheme once the more lucrative one ends.

If you follow this logic you will get into the habits of A.) always checking your heat, B.) only using minions when you have enough to throw away, and C.) using purple schemes to reduce your heat before it becomes a problem. If you develop these habits, you will always run successful programs in Evil Genius 2.
