You can still play zombies in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, but this time you’ll be able to kill a lot of them at once in a game called “extraction.” You may be used to the traditional round-based mode, but this is very different. Here are some tips to help you get ready for MW3 Zombies Mode and stay alive.
The new Modern Warfare 3 zombies mode is a little different than its previous incarnations and takes a fair bit of influence from Warzone 2’s DMZ. The aptly named, MWZ, is an open-world version of zombies in which you drop into the Urzikstan Exclusion Zone with your squadmates and have to survive to extract.
What is the best way to deal with zombies in Call of Duty?
One common move is to run around in a large area in circles until all the zombies are behind you. Then, use any bullets you have to attack the group. If you run out of bullets, switch to a ray gun or thunder gun to get rid of the horde.
How does MWZ work?
The zombie mode in Modern Warfare 3 bears a resemblance to the DMZ in Warzone 2. In an open world where you must complete Contracts, raid Strongholds, and acquire money to upgrade your weapons, you must battle legions of ravenous undead.
Because MWZ isn’t a point-versus-point game, every single player on the map is an ally, even if they aren’t in your squad. This is one of the main differences. If you are knocked out, any other player can bring you back to life, and you can trade Exfil choppers without having to make any risky voice chat agreements.
One more important difference is that backpacks no longer have weapon slots. You still have an Insured Weapon slot and a Contraband Weapon Stash. Acquisitions are powerful items that you can get at the end of a match and use to improve your character in MWZ. MWZ also has a level of weirdness that makes sense, with Wonder Weapons, weird Tacticals, and random enemy drops that give buffs like Insta-kill.
To help you understand MWZ better, here are some quick facts:
- Your MWZ match is based on the level of threat. As the game gets harder, you’ll face more zombies and tougher elite enemies, but you’ll also find better items.
- Your main goal is to use Essence (money) and items to improve your weapons and operator so you can take on the tougher tier areas.
- The best ways to get Essence are to finish Contracts or look for it in boxes and cash registers. You can also get a small amount of it by killing zombies.
- You can find new weapons in vaults and loot chests, buy them at wall sales, or get them from the Mystery Box. You can spend Essence at Pack-a-Punch machines or use things like Ammo Mods, Aether Tools, and Aetherium Crystals to level them up. These make weapons rarer and add damage effects.
- By buying Perk-a-Colas from the machines spread out across the map, you can give your operator extra benefits.
- Any weapon you take out in MWZ can now be used.
What do I need to do in MW3 Zombies Mode?
MWZ games last 45 minutes, and during that time, you can do a number of things, such as:
MW3 Zombies is an extraction mode
First, it’s important to know that this year’s Zombies mode isn’t based on rounds like last year’s was, and it also doesn’t work like the new objective-based modes you may have played in Black Ops Cold War or Vanguard.
You can choose how you want to play MW3 Zombies, which is a high-risk trios mode in a PvE environment. You can loot for high-value items and gear or complete story-based Operation Deadbolt missions.
Exfil safely to keep your gear and weapons.
In Zombies mode, dying usually just means starting over. But in Modern Warfare 3, there’s a lot more to gain and lose. You keep your weapons and gear if you successfully exfil, just like in DMZ mode. If you fail to extract from the match, you lose everything in your inventory except your Insured weapon. To make sure you can escape, you should really pay attention to the timer on your HUD since there won’t be endless waves of zombies. The matches last 45 minutes, and if you don’t get to an exfil helicopter in time, you’ll die in a battle royale/DMZ-style gas collapse as the time runs out.
Try working on the edges of the map.
MW3 Zombies is played on Warzone’s brand-new Urzikstan map. This version of Zombies doesn’t have rounds that get harder over time, but the zombies here are still at different levels of danger.
You start out on the map’s edges in a low-threat area. As you go deeper into the map, the level of danger goes up to medium, and in the middle, there is a brutal high-threat zone. You’ll always know what zone you’re in because your HUD will have a threat indicator right above your minimap.
You can get better equipped before going into a higher threat level if you work the edges of the map. If you don’t have good gear, you shouldn’t go to the middle of the map. There are zombies and special enemy types in the high-threat zone. These enemies have the same amount of health as very high-level, level 55+ zombies. They can soak up bullets and kill you.
It looks like there are three random exfil markers on your map. At any point, you can choose to leave from any of the extraction points. You don’t have to play the whole match. You can just jump in, finish a mission or get some loot, and then leave when you’re ready.
You will only have one last chance to get away with all your gear if your match time runs out and the gas starts to spread. The gas will eat up the map, and in the end, you’ll lose your first three escape points. With about 5 minutes left in the game, the last file will show up.
You should look at your Tac-Map to find the last exfil helicopter that is marked on it. It will be different for every match. Get to the helicopter right away. You will die and lose everything if you don’t go on this last ride.
Go not alone
It’s a 24-player PvE match where three people play together. Before you look for a match, you can choose the “No Fill” option. This will let you play right away without a partner, but there will still be other friendly trios in the match.
Going into higher threat zones and completing tasks by yourself, on the other hand, can be very hard, especially at first before you have the right gear. It’s best to work with someone and look around the map together.
Gear up
You can spend your time exploring the world, stealing from buildings, and completing quests. In Zombie mode, this will help you get ready for everything you need. You could loot better weapons, get all of your perks, and save up points to see if you can get Wonder Weapons from the Mystery Box. You can drink as many perks as you want, which is different from most other Zombies modes.
Take items and use schematics
Schematics should be one of the things you keep in your backpack. The crafting blueprints give you the permanent ability to make useful things like ammo mods, an Aether Tool that makes your weapons more powerful right away, and even a Wonder Weapon. If you want to save a schematic for future use, you must be able to exfil with it.
Even though schematics sound too good to be true, they can only do so much. And each schematic will have a timer that runs out. Because of this, you can’t use all the powerful items right away and without limits, since some craftable items need at least 8 hours to cool down.
Complete Contracts
These are mini-missions that you can find all over the map, just like in DMZ. They give you about 2,000 Essence when you finish them. The missions are pretty much the same as the ones in DMZ, but they have a zombie theme. When you finish a Contract, a Reward Rift will appear with some items for you to take. Usually, at least one Aether Tool or Aetherium Crystal is inside.
Bring big mags
Generally, you want to bring a gun with lots of bullets to MWZ, whether that’s an LMG, or just an expanded mag assault rifle. Ammo isn’t necessarily a problem, but the amount of kills you can get per mag is pretty important when you’re being swarmed.
Aim for the head
They’re zombies, right? Body-shotting the undead hordes will drink up bullets and make for far less efficient slaughter. You’ll want a weapon that you can reliably headshot with, but also spray and pray when there isn’t time to aim.
How do you kill the zombies in Call Of Duty: MW3?
If you really want to kill a zombie, you should focus all of your efforts on damaging the brain in any way possible. You can use a bludgeon, a bladed weapon, a gun, or a bazooka. That’s what you need to do: hit the person in the head with something that will kill them.
